1. Skiing in the Portes du Soleil ski area

Les Gets is a small, charming village resort that’s very pleasant to explore, but it’s also — and above all — a perfect gateway to the Portes du Soleil ski area.

If these names don’t ring a bell, don’t worry. To put it simply: when you ski in Les Gets, you get direct access to the Les Gets–Morzine ski area, which offers over 120 km of marked slopes, suitable for all levels, and 48 ski lifts. That’s already a huge playground and more than enough for a full day or a weekend on the slopes.

And if you want even more, it’s totally possible! Les Gets–Morzine is part of the much larger Portes du Soleil ski area. This vast domain connects 12 ski resorts across France and Switzerland, with over 600 km of slopes. With that many runs, chances are you’ll need more than one trip to ski them all!

Good to know: booking your ski pass online instead of on-site will save you a few euros. For example, a 1-day Les Gets–Morzine pass costs €54 on-site, compared to €48 online.

There’s also a 5-hour consecutive pass, which can be a great option if you’re not planning a full day on the slopes. It costs €44 online (instead of €49 on-site).

2. Try the 4-season sledding

If you’re into thrills, the 4-season sledding is definitely for you!
It’s a rail toboggan, open all year round — whether there’s snow or sunshine.

Much like a roller coaster, the sled slowly takes you uphill for about 100 meters before launching you into a 1.1 km downhill ride at full speed. You can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h.
Of course, the sled is equipped with brakes… but it’s up to you whether you use them (we pretended they didn’t exist 😂 and honestly, it was way more fun).

We didn’t really know what to expect, but between the sharp turns, steep drops and speed, the adrenaline rush is guaranteed!

You can ride up to two people per sled, and the price for one run (€9) is per sled, not per person.

3. Go on a snowshoe hike (or cross-country skiing)

Beyond skiing, the mountains in winter offer plenty of great opportunities for scenic walks, whether on snowshoes or even cross-country skis — and Les Gets is no exception.

You’ll find more than a dozen marked trails, suitable for snowshoeing, walking, cross-country skiing and even ski touring.

4. Stay at Hôtel La Marmotte, The Originals Relais

A huge favorite of ours ❤️ — this 4-star chalet-style hotel is located right in front of the ski slopes!

Thanks to its absolutely ideal location, La Marmotte offers both comfort and total peace of mind during your stay.

The rooms are spacious, the staff is amazing, and you have a great choice of dining options thanks to the hotel’s 3 restaurants. The breakfast is generous and delicious, and the cherry on top for us was the ski lockers available in the lobby, perfect for storing your gear and keeping your room clutter-free.

The hotel also features a pool and wellness area, as well as a cozy bar with a fireplace — but we’ll talk more about that just below 😉.

Since we loved staying here so much (and it would be a shame to keep such a great hotel to ourselves), we managed to get you a nice promo code for your next stay: FOXMARMOTTE25.

➡️ Promo code details: Get 25% off (non-cumulative) for any booking between January 15 and December 18, 2026, with a minimum of 2 nights (excluding August 1–16, 2026).Valid on the following room categories: Superior Lux, Prestige Tapiaz, Junior Suite, Comfort Suite, Exceptional Suite.

La Marmotte is part of the The Originals Hotels network, a cooperative of over 300 independent hotels in France. This model allows hotels to pool resources and offer the services of a large hotel chain while keeping their independence — and above all, a more authentic and human touch.
And honestly, you can really feel it on-site.

Parking is available at the hotel. Just ask for it upon arrival.

5. Relax at the hotel spa and cozy bar

We already mentioned it above, but honestly, this deserved its own dedicated section. Because yes — the hotel has a spa, and it’s absolutely amazing (and fully equipped, they don’t mess around!).

There’s an outdoor jacuzzi and sauna with views over the ski slopes, as well as a large indoor pool, another jacuzzi, a sauna, a hammam, a relaxation area, and a wide range of treatments and massages.

Of course, access to the spa and wellness area is included if you’re staying at the hotel.

  • Treatments: 9:30 - 12:30 and 15:30 - 19:30 (also open to guests not staying at the hotel)

As for the Cozy Bar, it’s a shared space within the hotel featuring a fireplace, plenty of sofas, a bar/tea lounge, and books available for guests. It’s the perfect place to unwind, play a board game, and enjoy a hot chocolate (or any other drink, alcoholic or not).A truly lovely and convivial moment by the fire 🔥.

6. Taste the local specialties

Because yes, the mountains also come with their fair share of local specialties! Raclette, fondue, tartiflette, cured meats, cheeses (Tomme de Savoie, Beaufort, Reblochon, Abondance, and more), not to mention local alcoholic drinks like gentian, hyssop or génépi.

You’ll definitely find something to love here (and probably gain a few extra kilos — but hey, it’s winter, you need energy to stay warm 😂).

You can taste many of these local specialties at La Marmotte’s restaurants, especially La Biskatcha and La Pivotte.
And if you’re looking for something a bit more refined and original, we highly recommend Semba bar, where they serve creative cocktails and great dishes meant to be shared.

7. Eat at the mountain restaurant La Païka

It’s impossible to talk about food without mentioning La Païka, a must-visit mountain restaurant. Located right on the slopes (accessible by skis or snowshoes), it sits along the La Turche drag lift, above the village of the same name.

From up there, you’ll enjoy beautiful views over the slopes and surrounding mountains, as well as a large terrace — perfect for soaking up the winter sun while having lunch.
If the weather isn’t great, they also have a very cozy indoor dining room inside the chalet.

Their specialty? Wood-fired grilled meats! We tried their thyme- and lemon-grilled lamb chops, and they were absolutely delicious.
They also offer an impressive dessert buffet, but to truly enjoy it, you’ll need to save some room and not go too hard on the main course 😂.

We really loved the atmosphere at this mountain restaurant, and the staff is super friendly. A great spot all around.

8. Be amazed by Alta Lumina

Just because night falls doesn’t mean there’s nothing left to do here.
Les Gets is home to Alta Lumina, a magical sound-and-light show.

It’s an enchanted nighttime walk, guided by music and storytelling. The scenography is beautifully done, and you’re instantly transported into a dreamy, poetic universe.
It’s a wonderful experience for both kids and adults alike.

Make sure to book in advance, as there’s no ticket office on site. Prices are €19.50 per adult and €10.50 per child.

To reach the entrance (which isn’t very obvious at night — we had to ask for directions 😅), follow the path that goes uphill above the lake, and you’ll find the entrance a few hundred meters further on.

Free parking available on site:

9. Stroll around the village resort of Les Gets

Les Gets

Les Gets is, above all, a human-sized village resort, and that’s exactly what makes it so charming. No big concrete buildings here — just wooden chalets. Everything is designed for strolling, slowing down, and enjoying the mountain atmosphere.

We really loved wandering around the village center, between the chalets, small shops, cozy restaurants and lively terraces at the end of the day.

There’s even an outdoor ice rink right in the heart of the village (€8.50 per adult, €7.50 for under 16s), open from December 20 to April 6. We went there before 10am so it was closed, but we definitely wouldn’t have said no to a few laps on the ice!

All in all, Les Gets is the kind of resort where you instantly feel at ease and where everything is within easy reach — including ski rental shops.

10. Enjoy the mountains and stunning sunsets

Sunset in Les Gets - ©Foxtrotteurs

We’re ending this article on a high note with some spectacular viewpoints. Because if there’s one thing you absolutely shouldn’t miss in Les Gets, it’s the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains — especially at sunset, when the peaks glow with pink and orange hues. The show is simply magical ✨

The good news? You don’t need to be a hardcore hiker to enjoy it. Many viewpoints are easily accessible by chairlift or gondola, so you can soak in the scenery without too much effort (for example, during a ski day).

Among our favorite spots:

  • La Rosta ❤️
  • Le Ranfoilly
  • La Chamossière ❤️
  • Pointe de Nyon ❤️
  • Mont Chéry

👉 Our tip: always check the lift closing times so you don’t get caught out, and make sure to dress warmly — temperatures drop quickly once the sun goes down.

Our tips

1️⃣ If you can, avoid Wednesdays and school holidays to enjoy the slopes with fewer people — it’s much more pleasant!

2️⃣ There are free shuttle buses running every day from 7:55 am to 7:30 pm throughout the village and surrounding hamlets. This makes getting around easy without using your car during your stay. The shuttles can be tracked in real time via the Pysea app (available on the Apple Store and Android). More info here.

3️⃣ Coming from Paris, the best option we found is the train to Lyon + car rental with Getaround : affordable and more eco-friendly! Plus, on the app you can filter vehicles equipped with winter tires or snow chains, which is super convenient! If you’d like to try it, here’s our code FOX15, giving you 15% off your rental anywhere in France until March 16, 2026.
